Ultrasound technology is constantly improving, so it can be difficult to keep up with what new options are most valuable to you! Philips’s xMatrix transducer technology allows you to see clearer images, resolve issues thoroughly, and make exams faster and easier for you and your patients.
This cardiac focused probe feature supports a full range of modes for your patients and includes the Philips X5-1, X7-2, X7-2t TEE and X8-2t TEE probes on the Philips Epiq 7, Philips Affiniti 70 (With Upgraded Continuum software package), Philips IE33 (G-Cart and up), and Philips IU22 (G-Cart and up) ultrasound systems. With this feature, you will enhance your workflow, power, performance, and versatility, making it a must-have if you are looking to upgrade your cardiac imaging capabilities!
What is xMatrix?
xMatrix is Philips’s probe technology that enhances picture clarity and creates a smoother workflow for you to diagnose and treat patients with more confidence. With the touch of a button, xMatrix offers these scanning modes in a single probe:
- 2D
- 3D/4D
- Live 3D Echo
- Live xPlane
- Live 3D Zoom
- Live 3D Full Volume
- iRotate
- Live MPR
- MPR
- M-mode
- Doppler
- Color Doppler
- CPA
Once the data is acquired, the system captures the X, Y, Z or iSlice MPR cineloops, and with only one touch, the system sends them to your PACS. Therefore, you can view, slice, and interrogate when it’s convenient for you. Watch the video below to see xMatrix in action!
How xMatrix can benefit your practice?
The xMatrix technology can help you diagnose faster and more confidently. During your cardiac exams, Live xPlane imaging allows you to acquire two planes simultaneously from the same heartbeat.
Its iRotate innovation electronically rotates to obtain the view within the acoustical window so you aren’t searching for a window that isn’t obscured by the ribs. With the X5-1 probe, iRotate allows you to complete an entire stress echo protocol, including the acquisition of 4-chamber, 2-chamber, and 3-chamber 2D images from the same window following peak exertion. All of this is done without moving the transducer.
What systems support xMatrix?
Philips Epiq 7
The Epiq 7 replaced the older Philips iu22 and ie33 machines and unlike its predecessors, the Epiq 7 can use the xMATRIX transducer technology. The Epiq 7 also features MicroCPA for improved low-flow angio exams, compound imaging, speckle-reducing imaging, ShearWave elastography, and PureWave transducers.
The Epiq 7 comes with an intelligent platform, a touch-screen monitor and automatic anatomic detection. These features make it time-saving and, although it is not as light or as small as some ultrasound machines, the Epiq 7 is still light enough to be portable. Philips Affiniti 70*
The Philips Affiniti 70 is next generation of the workhorse Philips Epiq series. Well known for its specialty in cardiac, OB-GYN and vascular applications, the Philips Affiniti 70 has rich image quality at a great price! The Affiniti 70 differs slightly from the Affiniti 50, as it has a few other technologies like xMatrix, for the Philips X7-2t and Philips X8-2t tee probes (unless it has the new Continuum software and hardware upgrade, then it can run the Philips X5-1 matrix cardiac probe), as well as Shear Wave Elastography and Strain Elastography, and it runs a few different probes.
Philips CX50*
The Philips CX50 ultrasound machine is a revolution in portable cardiac imaging designed with transportation in mind. An upgrade from the Philips CX30, the Philips CX50 can be transported into a patient surgery, the ICU, or to a satellite clinic with ease. Easily move from room to room with the confidence and powerful imaging on the market, supported by xMatrix probe technology. For more information on how the Philips CX50 can transform your practice, visit the Philips CX50 product page or watch our video review. This machine is also available to rent!
Philips IU22*
In the Philips IU22 ultrasound system, Philips uses volume imaging and the ViewForum workstation to view ultrasound in the same format as CT and MR. Exam times are reduced by as much as 38 percent while using the Philips IU22 ultrasound. The Philips IU22 model offers tissue aberration correction on breast transducers, body contrast-enhanced ultrasound for more definitive diagnosis, and exam time reduction with SmartExam.
Philips IE33
In the Philips IE33 ultrasound system, Philips appeals to the clinical needs of patients with cardiac diseases, such as heart failure, vascular disease, and congenital heart disease. The Philips IE33 provides high-quality images in both 2D and Live 3D imaging, along with quantification, clinical performance, and information management. This particular Philips model contains Cardiac Motion Quantification, which increases the accuracy of LV function and wall motion measurement.
